Ridgeway Community School’s after-school basketball clubs took the spotlight during halftime at Saturday night’s Winona State University Women’s Basketball game against MSU–Moorhead! 🏀 Our older players scrimmaged on one half of the court while our younger athletes showed off their dribbling skills on the other. A big thank-you to the parents who helped make this happen, to Senator Jeremy Miller for jumping in to help when a player was out sick, and to the WSU Athletic Department for this incredible opportunity. Congratulations as well to the Warriors on their exciting 84–80 overtime win! 🎉
Ridgeway Community School is wrapping up the first semester with an exciting week full of after-school clubs and evening activities! These opportunities provide our students with additional opportunities to learn, create, and have fun together beyond the school day. 🎉 The highlight of the week is our piano and guitar recital on Thursday, January 15th at 6:15 p.m., where students will showcase their musical talents. Families and community members are warmly invited to join us for a wonderful evening of music and celebration. 🎶

Movement, music, and lots of smiles filled the gym this week at Ridgeway! Our Kindergarten–3rd grade students danced their way through a fun PE unit, while our 4th and 5th graders took aim as they kicked off a two-week archery unit. The highlight? On Friday, our kindergarteners proudly shared their newly mastered bunny-hopping moves with the preschoolers—proving that learning is even better when it’s shared. Fun was had by all! 🐰🎯
Ridgeway night at the WSU Basketball Games is Saturday, January 10th. Ridgeway families are invited to attend the Winona State University Basketball Games against MN State-Moorhead. Ridgeway K-5 students who were members of our November and December basketball clubs or who can attend a special practice this Friday, January 9th, will be able to attend the games for free with a paying adult, and participate in a basketball scrimmage and/or drill activity at halftime of the women's game (@ 6:00 p.m.).
The men's game starts at 3:30 p.m., and the women's game starts at 5:30 p.m.
Students who want to participate in the halftime activity should arrive at the McCown Gymnasium (175 West Mark St.) by 5:15 p.m. Tickets can be purchased in advance or at the door. No Cash is accepted at the door. General Admission tickets cost $11.20 for adults, and $6.80 for K-12 students. Children under 5 are free.

The Parenting Class at Ridgeway Community School, scheduled to start this evening, is a go, as there are enough families signed up to hold the class. However, there is still space for a couple of other families to participate. If you haven't taken an ECFE Parenting Class before and are interested in checking out this Parenting Class geared for parents of 1 to 9-year-olds, you can attend tonight's class for free before deciding if you want to attend the remaining four classes.
The 5-week evening ECFE Parenting Class runs from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesdays. The class begins tonight and runs weekly through February 4th. A light supper will be available from 5:30 to 6:00 p.m., and then parents and children will separate for an hour-long discussion facilitated by a licensed parent educator. Content and childcare will be geared toward children ages 1-9 (3rd Grade). During our first week, group members will share their areas of interest, which will guide discussions on the topics that matter most to YOU for the remaining four weeks.

4th & 5th Environmental Science Fair Open House - Jan. 22, 6:30 - 7:30 PM
Ridgeway Community School will hold an Open House on Thursday, January 22nd, featuring an Environmental Science Fair by the school's 4th and 5th-grade students. The event will take place from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the school's multi-purpose room. Tours of the school will be available for families interested in enrolling for the 2026-27 school year.

Ridgeway's first graders used inspiration from the book" Imogene's Antlers" by David Small to write their own imaginative stories about antlers growing out of their heads. They had some fun and clever ideas!
Ridgeway's Kindergarten to 5th graders left the school in the hands of the preschoolers on Monday and headed into Winona for their annual Fun Day Before Winter Break. The students sang some carols at Merchants Bank and then headed over to Westgate Bowl for lunch and some bowling fun. We would like to thank Merchants Bank and Westgate Bowl for hosting us, as well as the parents, grandparents, and staff who assisted with the outing. We also greatly appreciate our awesome parent support organization, RPAC, for paying for this fun outing. We are sorry that we had to cancel singing at the Watkins home due to the 2-hour late start, but we hope to sing for the residents there next year on our Winter Break Fun Day outing.
Due to the deteriorating driving conditions, Ridgeway's Piano and Guitar recital, originally scheduled for Thursday, December 18th has been rescheduled until Thursday, January 15th at 6:15 p.m. The event is free and open to the public, and will feature over 30 current and former Ridgeway Community School students performing on the piano, guitar or both instruments.
These Ridgeway alumni participated in the recent dance competition at Winona Senior High School. Eisley C., and Norah M. represented Houston and LARP respectively; while Willa B., Malia B, and Haylee S., danced with Winona, which placed first in both the Jazz and Kick events. Finally, Hannah H., a former Winona team member, is now coaching the Rochester Century team. Congratulations to all and best wishes on the rest of your competitive dance season!
Congratulations to Ridgeway's Fall semester student teachers who graduated yesterday from Winona State University. Miss. White and Miss. Hegge did a wonderful job of connecting with, and teaching our 4th and 5th grade students under the leadership of Mrs. Anderson and Mrs. Krings. We are excited to announce that Miss. Hegge will be returning to work next semester with the preschool students at Ridgeway Community School as our Early Learning Corps Member. Best wishes to both of them in their education careers!
Due to illness, Ridgeway Community School's annual Winter Holiday Concert has been rescheduled to Friday, December 19th at 12:45 p.m.. Unfortunately, due to schedule conflicts this will be the only Winter Concert Performance this year. The concert is open to the public, and those attending are asked to bring a donation to the 10 Days of Giving Food Drive, if they have not already made a donation.
Due to the blowing and drifting snow and poor driving conditions, Ridgeway Community School will have a delayed start on Wednesday, December 10th.
This means the following changes will take place:
* K-5 School: will start at 9:45 a.m. and dismiss at the regular 2:15 p.m. dismissal time.
• Preschool: We start preschool at 8:45 a.m.
• Transportation: Buses will pick students up two hours after their regular pickup time.
• Morning Childcare: Childcare will be offered from 6:30 a.m. until school starts. Families will be charged for childcare until 9:00 a.m. at the regular after-school care rates.
• School Breakfast: A simple breakfast of Pop-Tarts, or a muffin, milk, and juice will be served from 7:00 to 7:45 a.m.
Ridgeway's parent support organization, RPAC, hosted a wonderful Family Fun Night on Friday evening. They provided STEM activities and popcorn, while families enjoyed playing games and visiting with Santa Claus, who stopped by to listen to students' Christmas wishes and share some treats. Thanks to everyone who helped make this event a success! Happy Holidays to all of our families and friends!
Join us for RPAC's annual Santa Family Fun Night on Friday, December 5th. The event runs from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. with games and fun STEM and craft activities to choose from. Santa visits from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., so stop by and get your picture taken with him. A popcorn snack will be provided at this FREE family event.

We were lucky to hold Ridgeway's November Little Jays Playgroup on a warm day which allowed for indoor and outdoor play. Some tasty snacks and a fun story time rounded out our "Building with Little Jays" Morning. Little Jays are invited to our next family event a game and makerspace (craft) night and a visit from Santa on Friday, December 5th from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. Thanks to RPAC for supporting this activity!
