Ridgeway Community School hosted our annual Archery Tournament this weekend using the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) tournament rules. This year our archers broke many tournament records: * Largest number of tournament archers – 75 (43 females, and 32 males); * Largest number of schools represented – 11; * First International Participant – Clo Bourdel an exchange student from France, representing La Crescent – Hokah High School; * Highest Score in the History of the Ridgeway Tournament – a 268 scored by Tearnee Smith a 5th Grader from Ridgeway Community School, shooting in her first Ridgeway tournament! * Highest Team Score – 2,773 for the Ridgeway Community School Blue Jays. (NASP Tournaments rules assign team scores as the sum of the top 12 archers according to the following guidelines: top 4 females, top 4 males, and the next top 4 archers). The tournament is a great opportunity for area students to put their archery skills to the test, some for the first time while others have competed in archery tournaments for over five years. This year's participants ranged from 4th grade to 11th grade. Congratulations to all the youth archers on their performance at the tournament! Archery helps students learn focus, self-control, discipline, patience, and the life lessons required to be successful in the classroom and life. Many archery club members go on to participate in area high school clay target teams where they can continue to build these skills. We wish to thank our tournament organizer and the Ridgeway - Winona Archery Club coach, Mr. Larson along with the other coaches and volunteers who assisted with the tournament: Mr. El, Mr. Pug, Mr. Fort, Mr. Henry, and Mr. Dave. Finally, we thank the Bluff Country Chapter of the Minnesota Deer Hunters for their ongoing support of our archery program and the recent support of the Winona/Root River Chapter of Pheasants Forever. #NASParchery #ridgewaybluejays #ontargetforlife
