We had a fun afternoon on Saturday at our annual Winter Family Fun Day. This year we hunted for Yetis outside and made Yetis inside. We also climbed the walls and shot some basketballs. The few inches of snow that arrived during the party added to our winter atmosphere!

We are switching up our after-school clubs for the month of February. Still hoping for some snow so we can do some cross-country skiing, but in the meantime, we'll create with Legos, shoot some arrows, and build our strategy skills with Mr. R's Chess Club.
Please consider joining us for our Winter Family Fun Day on Saturday, January 8th at 1:00 p.m. or our 1st 500 Card Party at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 9th.

Our 2nd and 3rd grade Lego Club had its last gathering this week. Each week the students met in the school library to work on a new Lego challenge. Some weeks 4th & 5th graders assisted with judging the creations. Many thanks to Ms. Laurie for leading this club and to Ms. Lindsay and Miss. Brooke for their assistance with the fun!

Ridgeway's 4th and 5th Graders showed off the results of their science projects at the School's Science Fair on January 28th. The students did a great job of putting their presentation boards together despite a fair amount of illness and some lost school days! Thanks to all the families and friends who attended the event to learn about the students' projects. These photos are of some of the 5th graders in front of their projects.

Earlier this month, Ridgeway Community School collaborated with the Pleasant Busy Bees 4-H Club on our 2nd Annual 10 Days of Giving Food Drive Challenge. The 4-H Club matched every food item Ridgeway families donated to the 10 Days of Giving Food Drive. Together, the two organizations contributed 1,455 items to the 10 Days of Giving Food Drive. Many thanks to all the families who contributed to making this food drive successful!

Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah to our families, friends, and neighbors!

Ridgeway's Kindergarten to 5th grade students had a great time at Friday's annual Winter Fun Day. The students sang some of their Holiday Concert songs at Merchants Bank and Watkin's Home Great Hall during the morning. After lunch, the students were able to choose between skating at Bud King Ice Rink or swimming and playing in the gym at Winona State University. Thanks to our awesome parent organization RPAC for their financial support for this trip, and to all the businesses and individuals who support RPAC's annual spring raffle which raises funds for this and other field trips. Their efforts allowed us to provide the choice of afternoon activities for our students to enjoy some fun lifetime sports activities. We hope all our families and neighbors can enjoy some fun physical activities during our winter break!

On Thursday evening these Ridgeway Community School students performed at the school's Winter Piano recital. Many thanks to Ridgeway 's music teacher Mrs. O'Brien, Mr. Hobbs and the other piano teachers who work with our students to help them develop their musical skills.

Last week Ridgeway's favorite "Science Grandparents" Anna and Mike Markegard led two afternoon STEM sessions with our 4th and 5th graders. They explored the "Science of Color" and learned that color results from light interacting with objects, where wavelengths of light are absorbed or reflected by the surface. Our eyes perceive these wavelengths as different colors, with the brain interpreting them based on their frequency and intensity. We would like to thank the Markegards for making this ELECTRIFYING, hands-on learning experience!

The students and staff members of Ridgeway Community School are thankful for our families, friends, and supportive community!

In cooperation with 10 Days of Giving, Ridgeway Community School families and community members are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to school from November 26th thru December 6th . Items will be totaled by homeroom and the winning homeroom will receive a special holiday treat! Items will also be matched by the Pleasant Busy Bees 4-H Club making this a great opportunity to double your giving and help fill a local food shelf. Thanks to Merchants Bank for coordinating this food drive and to the Pleasant Busy Bees for matching the donations we receive! We hope to exceed our 2023 total of 715 items. Community members may drop off your donations in the barrel in the front entryway of the school.
