School Linked Mental Health Services:

Through a special grant from the Ridgeway students are able to access weekly counseling services from a therapist from Hiawatha Valley Mental Health Center.  If after meeting with you and your student HVMHC staff determine your student qualifies for Shool Linked Mental Health Services they will be available to your student at no charge to you (HVMHC will seek to gain any insurance resources that are available).  To begin the process of inquiring about these services click on the Request an Appointment Link on the HVMHC website.  You should then reach out to your child's teacher or school coordinator Jodi Dansingburg to let us know you would like to access the School-Linked program so that the school staff can submit the necessary school referral paperwork.  Below is more information about the services available through Hiawatha Valley Mental Health Center:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) a form of psychotherapy treatment that has been demonstrated to be effective for a range of problems including depression, anxiety disorders, alcohol and drug use problems, marital problems, eating disorders and severe mental illness.

Intensive Treatment in Foster Care (ITFC) is an intensive therapeutic program designed to help youth with significant mental health symptoms and impairments in their functional abilities who are currently living in family foster care settings.

Psychiatry - Our psychiatry department helps youth 5 years of age and older, manage their mental health, whether it is working with a therapist or talking medications and working with a psychiatrist or a psychiatric nurse practitioner to maintain stability of their mental wellbeing.  Families seek help from a physiatrist for many reasons. The problems can be sudden, such as a panic attack, thoughts of suicide, or hearing voices. Or they may be more long-term, such as feelings of sadness, hopelessness, or anxiousness that never seem to lift or problems functioning, causing everyday life to feel distorted or out of control.

School-Linked Behavioral Health services are offered at numerous public and charter schools within the counties of Fillmore, Houston, Winona and Wabasha. School-Linked therapists and skills practitioners meet with youth and their families in school to provide traditional therapy and therapeutic skills services. In addition, we are also able to meet with youth and their families at their homes or at any of our clinic locations in Winona, Caledonia, Wabasha or Red Wing. We also have an office in Rushford.
